lemasters family christmas

we had a great time in virginia this past week--sleeping in, seeing movies, shopping, eating & just enjoying time with one another. it was a week well spent. jes' mom is a killer cook & it was great to enjoy her mexican food again (we brought some of her famous hot sauce home!), the three men went for a hike one day up to the bird tower (named so by justin), & jes enjoyed staying in her pajamas all day the first couple days we were there. it was a blast! they showered us with lots of love & lots of presents!

roxy got to fly too--so it was fun for the whole family! she is such a great little travelling companion! i know they wanted to keep her in va, but jes couldn't bear to part with her! she is a permanent member of this johnson family.

we hope all of you had a wonderful holiday as well. happy new year!

do ya want the good news or bad news first?

This is a long blog, but it's worth it, so read on:

Friday was the BEST & WORST day of my whole entire 25 years. This is no exaggeration. I’ll start at the beginning--which was actually last Wednesday (12/14).

Last Wednesday Christin Taylor called to ask me to temporarily work for her Thursday (12/15) through Friday (12/16) while she took come graduate courses. So I arrived at Screen Capital International on Thursday & was warmly welcomed. They asked me why I moved to LA, “Acting? Directing? Producing?” I said no, singing. I want to sing. They chuckled a bit & I got to work. Later on Dan asked me what kind of music I wanted to sing. So I explained how I wanted to create my own genre: a mix of Sheryl Crow/Lauryn Hill/Faith Hill/Bonnie Raitt (rock/r&b/country). I don’t know what it would be called, but that’s the idea. That afternoon they were having their Christmas lunch at the Palm & they invited me! I accepted gratefully. When Christin & I arrived they had left a seat between the boss David & Dan. While at dinner there were comments made about me staying around long term & David (the boss) jokingly made a comment that they were hiring a singer in the office. I jumped on that & said I would be perfect for the job. That lead into him asking more questions about what I wanted to sing. I said, “Do you REALLY want to know?”, he said yes. So I explained my creation of a genre. I could tell he got it & appreciated it. He named a couple more artists along my lines. I was like, “YES!”, it was a great first conversation. I loved him immediately, I thought he was great--so kind, funny, & generous. I got to talk with Dan about my music a lot throughout the week & on Thursday I actually sang him a couple songs. His response was, “We have to do something about this”. I was thrilled, not that he was REALLY going to do something about it, but I loved that it was his response to me. Now for Friday the biggest & best day of my life: the day started out like any other. I got to SCI at 9AM, picked up breakfast, answered the phone, worked on the Christmas list, & ate nuts from Peanut Dudes (the best nuts ever). At about 3:30PM the guys called me into the conference room where they were meeting, I asked if I should bring something to take notes & Lukas said no. I came in & David began thanking me for coming in & that they had a gift for me, not something you open, but more of an opportunity. He began explaining to me that they had a music exec friend that they wanted to set me up with. I was going to do an audition & I could end up doing a number things--he could produce a record, I could do backup...etc. He does so much! I AM GOING TO MEET WITH THE PRESIDENT OF A RECORDING STUDIO!!! I began crying. I felt like I had been given the world. It’s the best gift I have ever received! I couldn’t believe it! I have since learned that the plan has been in motion since I that Thursday Christmas lunch! Christin & Josh & Kari Jackson had been working on the sidelines. Josh told Justin & I that we needed to get a demo together, but he couldn’t tell us why. We had no idea the two were related until yesterday!!! David (SCI boss) had asked for the demo because he knew he wanted to help me since that first conversation! He never got the demo, but I ended up singing Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas as a sort of Christmas gift, plus I wanted to prove to them that I was as good as they hoped. So in the end to make a long story short they are offering me the chance to audition for the President of this company & I am thrilled! I will keep you updated.

Now for the bad news: After that incredible day I was calling Justin, & my family & friends. I called Kari & we decided to got out & celebrate at Moose’s. I was going to pick her up on the scooter, but after calling Justin a million times (he was at a Christmas party where he could get the phone) I found out he had the keys. So I called Kar & told her I would walk & meet her at Moose's. I left, but decided to ride my bike instead at the last minute. I started out on the sidewalk going toward Green Street, coming up to the crosswalk I saw the walk signal & decided to keep going. As I got ready to cross I saw an SUV coming up to the crosswalk really quickly & the woman wasn't looking & she was going to make a "rolling stop right turn" at the red light. I new at that moment I was going to get hit, but it was too late to do anything. It all happened so fast. I remember getting hit--the SUV connected with my left side & the next thing I know was laying in the middle of the crosswalk in the fetal position. I began screaming & crying. Not really because it hurt so much, but b/c I was so shocked & I knew I couldn't get a hold of Justin (a woman let me use her phone, so I left him a message) & I didn't know Josh & Kari's numbers (my cell phone had died b/c I used it so much that night & all my numbers are on it). Someone called 911 & people took care of me until the rescue team arrived. When the police got there I moved. The only thing that really hurt were my ankles. So I'm ok, but it was traumatizing. Worse than getting hit though was being alone! Justin was in Hollywood at a party, Kari was waiting for me at Moose's & Josh was at home. No one even knew I had been hit. I had to sit there for 40 minutes without a friend. Finally, the cops took me home & I called everyone. Kari came in a matter of seconds & then Josh. I finally got a hold of Justin & he came right away. I am really sore today & my right ankle is sprained, but that's it!! I am so grateful that I am alive & that's all that happened to me!! We still celebrated that night--I wasn't going to let being hit by a car ruin the most wonderful day of my life!!!

big bear weekend

jus took me to big bear this weekend! it was absolutely incredible! it is unreal to me how we can live in warm, sunny los angeles, california and then drive an hour and a half away and be in the cold, snowy mountains! we came from 70 degree weather into freezing weather!! we drove up this giant mountain (ELEV: 10,000') & into big bear lake (POP: 6200, ELEV: 6326') and enjoyed eating at hometown restaurants, saw a movie, enjoyed our in room jacuzzi & fireplace, checked out the ski slopes (didn't ski, i wasn't quite ready for that adventure) and relaxed!
we plan on visiting big bear quite often. i want to learn to ski, jus wants to snowboard, there are plenty of day hikes & maybe if we can get emily stokes out here she can take us riding up there. what do you think em?
it was wonderful! if you live our here already or are visiting california you must visit big bear lake!
