we had an unbelievable time! we set out on monday (a little late--sorry josh) & spent that evening & most of tuesday hiking through the hills of southern indiana. kari & jes now have a greater respect for all hikers out there & will be able to sympathize, not just empathize with their husbands after their 21 day adventure through new hampshire & maine. good luck guys. tuesday afternoon we got poured on while we were hiking & that actually motivated jes, until the thought of setting up a tent & spending the night in the dampness crept in. then it was thoughts of a hotel & pizza that kept her on the go. the rain cleared & so did the trail as we entered the elk creek trailhead. there we met cricket, a good ol country guy takin' a few drags on his smokes with his lady friend. he let us look as his maps & chat with him for a while as we layed all our gear out to dry. as we all lay in the sun kar & jes started talking over how tough it had been & not at all like what we had imagined. kar had
no idea that all you did was go up-down-up-down--that's it. this is how she would describe it, "imagine the highest hill or climb you have ever climbed. now imagine doing that over & over & over...". jes on the other hand had no idea that there was no goal in hiking. when she thought that knobshead was an actual place the hike sounded very appealing, but once that bubble was burst she didn't get it. then the idea of a hotel & pizza was brought up. we laughed at the thought of leaving the trail, but at the same time the thought of traveling to next closest town & staying in a roadside motel sounded just as adventureous (maybe not). as we were trying to decide cricket yelled from his truck, "you guys want a ride to your car?" we laughed & looked at one another. "here's an easier way to decide," he said climbing out of his truck & handing us each a quarter. 3 out of 4 heads we motel, 3 out of 4 tails we hike. look at our
album to see what we did.
